Cultivated ties motherhood to the germination of a bean and the position of a gardener. Connecting dots between the humanised/mechanised growth of plants and children, the post-industrialised service economy and the sentiments of the idealised, realised and formalised stages of motherhood and the potential of the child.

Who is the Gerbera Mother?

Remember in 2001, a single daisy in a thin vase, clean design, a hopeful future.

The gerbera daisy has become a returning symbol in my art practice.

What it stands for is in constant flux.

With a gaze into the future the artist assumes that the lore surrounding the daisy will develop and evolve.

The gerbera daisy shifted from symbol to a character in 2025. A loose idea of a gerbera mother, an open being who gives hope and dreams, support and thought.

They say it takes a village to raise a child – what advice can you give her to support both for her own growth and her bean’s.
